Regarding Ron Hunts urinals, this section of map shows lavs, could these be the ones.

Peter I think they are the lavatories to the properties next to the DERBY ARMS? I'm still searching for a photo<g>No doubt there will be a Whit Walks photo, somewhere, with it showing in the background..

That's a good map Peter, it's showing part of the Roman Cemetery too which got to be covered over with the gas works.

Does this link to Wigan World Album's Item #25260 show the outside wall brick and the ginnel leading to that public toilet?

https://www.wiganworld.co.uk/album/photo.php?id=25260

No helpful 'Gents' sign to be seen - maybe the toilets were already closed by the time of the photo (no Brocol House, so presumably taken late 1960s )

I have to say, I never expected to be so fascinated by the various old Corporation lavatories which have popped up in the Album of late.

Where there no toilets in Wigan?

The main toilets were in Market Place and on the Market Square by the bus station.

Must confess I have no interest in public Urinal but do remember them and the SMELL!
However I really do like the map and remember Gees Court vey well and all the area around, would love to see a more expanded view as I lived at the corner of Harrogate Street and Douglas Street.
The Inn at the corner of Harrogate Street and Shelmerdine Street was The Harrogate , further up Harrogate Street was the Adelphi on the corner of Foy Street. The larger of the two buildings at the corner of Harrogate Street and Darlington Street was also a Pub but I cannot recall its name?
