The rat infested sheds and wasteland where the James Street children played.
In the background is the old gas works building in 1971.

What a great set of photos Frank. Children may have better areas to play in now but they are not as exciting and children now are not allowed the freedom these kids had.
Market Hall pics are so god to see too.

Had a Great Aunt who lived on Bradford Street off Chapel Lane and you could see the gas works from her yard, I always thought that to be a horrible, bleak building and with a prevailing wind the smell from the production of town gas was absolutely foul, also heard stories of massive cockroaches in there and also workers who had terrible burns from phenol.
