Re the debate on the location of the earlier picture that I posted of Ince Post Office. I found this other angle showing the spread of buildings behind which may identify the location better. Hope I'm not boring people with this subject.

No you're not, Frank, certainly not Incers anyway. I would have known this was Higher Ince Post Office from this angle right away. I remember that petrol-advert sticking out from the wall further along. I keep scanning those faces, hoping I will recognise someone!

Frank is this the one where the floor collapsed about 30 odd years ago?

Never boring Frank, this is what WW is all about.
There it is, Higher Ince Post Office. At the end of the building is Anderton's cycle shop, Petrol pumps and they had a milk round as well.

Well done Frank pal, you've made my day, I always knew I was right...not at first, but later on.

The lady next to the doorway with her finger next to her mouth, is Ann Hartley or was before she married.

The sub-post office where the floor collapsed was at Spring View. I would say that was in the early 80s, Mrs Woosey was the subpostmistress at that time and I believe she sustained a broken leg.

I remember there being a petrol pump in the street there in the background in the 1950's. How long would it have lasted these days ?

I used to have a Bedford CA van like the one in the picture, except mine had windows in the side. It was a good motor. It had a 3 speed column change and sliding doors.

Comment by: Frank Orrell on 2nd December 2015 at 22:04

MarieM, They were queuing because there had been a raid on the post office and it was temporarily closed. Thanks for all the comments. It is really interesting to see people's reminiscences of the scenes.

The Giro bank sign in the window indicates that this is post 1968. I would guess, with the clothes on show, it to be around 1973.

This photo has appeared on "Characters of Ince" on Facebook, and one of the members has named the lady at the back of the queue wearing a checked coat as her Auntie, Lizzie Fairhurst.

Irene , Did you write that poem in Places, Ince 62 For Christine?

Comment by: irene roberts on 7th December 2015 at 13:45

Can't find it now! If it's the one beginning Remember Ince in sixty-two, yes I did,

Comment by: Kas on 7th December 2015 at 18:13

Greatly enjoyed reading it Irene, very moving. I just followed one of your links and found it.

the girl under national sign with small lass infront of her may be Dennise Curruthers. Man at front of queue behind lass with basket is the late John Sherwood who was murdered in lower ince in 82
