In the late 1940s when my wife and I were walking to Wigan, there was a raised walkway of boards put there everytime the Douglas flooded.

Confused about the direction as I know the saddle area has changed so much. I remember the saddle pub being there as a small child. Is that Seven Stars in the distance?

carol you are right, the Seven Stars is the last building on the left. Just before the bridge.

Haha I've aqua planed through there a few times too when I was much younger. Every time there was a good downpour the Dougie flooded just there.

Still not sorted the problem out. Couldn't get to B&Q on Wednesday and road was closed so had to turn back and go up to M6 at Orrell to get back to Standish because road was flooded near Martland Park and couldn't getto Woodhouse Lane.Didn't want to risk going down to Gathurst in case Douggie had flooded there.

Further to my earlier comment,I thought that the new multi million£ dam near Coppul Lane was going to stop the river Douglas flooding down Wallgate. Seems to be another waste of money.

Looked exactly the same on Tuesday, I got from Preston to Wigan in 10 minutes on the train then took me an hour from Wigan to Orrell on the bus, all due to flooding at The Saddle!
