This alleyway ran between Millgate and Station Road might have neen called Ship Yard. This area was destroyed when the Grand Arcade was built.

Wasn't it called Stairgate?

Yes Irene it was. I remember it very well.
Happy New Year to you and Peter!

And to you, Margaret; let's hope we have some luck in our search for you-know-what in the coming year!

Irene, you are probably right it will be Stairgate, Ship Yard was further down Millgate.

I think this alley was at the side of the casino.you can see the railings were the casino used to be, after they demolished it.thought stairgate was the steep one near penningtons?

That's right mickyeast - Whalleys was in Ship Yard, down the alley between the Borough chippy and the Salvation Army Citadel.
I used to deliver there.

This is certainly Ship Yard, Stairgate was opposite Hewlett St further down Millgate.

Whalley’s Pet Shop was in Burrows Yard (Millgate Chipy on the corner) down on the left hand side. Previously they had been located in the Weind more or less opposite Tickles.
