Opposite the entrance to St William's. But what exactly are we looking at on the right? Someone with a brolly... but what is in the immediate foreground?

Terraced houses (still there today) and the corner shop, known as "Icky's"

I think the point of this photo is a snowy winters day on Ince green lane, in the direction of ince railway station.
Not much as changed over the years.

The paper shop (now Icky's) was once run by Dave and Ann Taylor. I delivered papers from there in the 60's

rev Long re the snow scene it was a bit unusual at the time (mid 70s) it was either early April or later forget which the brolly person is my wife!just going to shop further down on left, I just was finishing a reel of film to get more important clips on it developed!

I used to get my comics from the papershop....it was Gardener's at one point.....and the shop further down on the left was Ken Roberts' butchers in the early 60s.

We got sweets from there too but we thought it was called Veritys or something like that. A friend from St Williams bought some Jap Desserts once but told he told us they were called JAP DESERTS....

The paper shop was also owned by Wiseman's and Verity's as I can recall. The butchers shop was owned (and run) by Claude Roberts (I think Ken was his brother) I used to run errands for him during the 5 week school holiday's as well as delivering papers, got me used to hard work. Claude had one of those massive butchers bikes that weighed a ton and one of my jobs was going to Sutcliffe's tripe works on Belle Green Lane with the bike picking up his order of bleached white tripe.
If you misbehaved in his shop he would lock you in his massive freezer in retaliation. none of this was malicious just good friendly humour. Nothing but good memories of Claude and his shop

Gerry, I'd completely forgotten the name of the papershop owners when I was a very small girl.....it WAS Verity's; Gardeners and Wisemans, (which I had also forgotten, John), came later. Thanks to you all on this pic for lovely memories.

I used to live in Leaway in 1975.Just around the corner.
I remember Mr and Mrs Gardener. They offered to sell me the shop when they were leaving!
My Dad still lives in one of the houses that can be seen on Ince Green Lane.
Where has time gone.

I think it was June 1st either 1975 or 1976 when there was snow in flaming June before a long hot summer.
