Another era bites the dust...other places have kept cinemas of that time. Definately...sniffle, sniffle, shame on you Wigan planners. What have you got now ?

It is such a shame..there used to be so much to do in Wigan, a vibrant and clean town...Now there's nothing but filth, drunks, fighting and empty shops..Thankfully, I still have my memories of what it used to be like..

It's a crying shame and all for a shopping hall of glass and metal.

Who remembers the 'Ritz Steps'?

Filth???

Anyway... I am still convinced they could have done something with that building, maybe as a town centre cinema or live performance venue as part of the GA Complex.

I was glad to see the back of it. Horrible building. No style to it, just a blot on the landscape.

Do you think the monstrosity that is there now is any better? It isn't the building, it is the fact that it would have been a fantastic venue for concerts etc. However Wigan Council(Spit) thought that another White Elephant of a Shopping Mall is what the people of Wigan would rather have. Why couldn't they have incorporated the Ritz building into the shopping arcade? Most of the shops that are in the Grand Arcade could easily have been incorporated into the Galleries and the Debenhams building.

That is just your opinion and you are entitled to it but a lot of people do not agree with you. This council cannot waste enough money, destroying our heritage. They should be deeply ashamed... The shops SHOULD have been incorporated in the already empty, neglected original shopping centre. I dread to think where they will turn their attention to next. The Grand Arcade is the eyesore in my book Not to mention the horrible building....

Peter and I had our first date at the Ritz.....I was 15 and he was 17. We sat on the back row watching Bonnie and Clyde, and Peter had bought a box of Clarnico Mint Creams, of which he ate the lot, never taking his eyes off the screen, and he made me come out before the end as they all got shot! Who said the age of romance is dead?! (I'm still with him, believe it or not!)
