This a shot of the methane boring rig. It was used to bore holes in the roof and also in the floor of the seam to tap off methane gas. This was then piped up the pit and sold to the Crosfield soap works in warrington. Soetimes realising up to 3/4 million in revenue.The gas is still coming out of the sealed off shafts after 17 years.

They were extracting methane in the 60s,for a time they used it to run the pits boilers,then they put the pipeline in.Thanks for putting the photos on Fred.

DID ANYBODY ACTUALLY SEE ANY GHOSTS IN L19?? IT WAS ALWAYS SUPPOSED TO BE HAUNTED!!

This was the first place i worked when i started down the pit,always remember it,what a dump.Pete Murrey was my first boss,good one to.
