My friend's dad was a trin driver from Ince. His names Melling too, Norman Melling. I wonder if he's related to Wilf?

To Jimmy and Linda. I was a secondman for your dad on many occasions. A great bloke with the dryest sense of humour. We were once going to a place called Partington on a saturday morning and I had a wedding in the afternoon. I told your dad that I needed to be back early. We were working a class 9 train whcih consisted of 30 wagons. The only brake was on the loco and the guard in the brake van and it had a maximum speed of 50 MPH. We set off from Sprongs Branch and soon got to 50 MPH. Your dad then got out of the seat, looked across at me and said ''You made me go this fast, so you can stop it''. Great days working with a gent

My dad Norman Taylor was a driver out of Springs Branch in the late 1940s/early 50s and died when I was 5, 1953. Anybody know of him? We lived in a railway cottage in Pemberton.
