Taken c1962 and pointing along the Whelley Loop towards the Iron Bridge with Rabbit Rocks to the right. The grey hills - slag heaps - along both sides of the canal can be seen in the distance and the rucks are below this line to the left.
This junction is Rose Bridge Junction and the line curves away behind the photographer skirting the edge of the Rabbit Rocks to meet the Springs Branch Line at Kirkless Hall Junction just at the side of Kirkless Bridge.
The 1907 map shows greater activity here with two lines meeting the Springs Branch and a siding. One further line, closer in to the slag heap went directly into the Coal and Iron Works.

Really great set of pictures of a much under-recorded line DK - have you any further along the whelley loop line around haigh hall + the douglas valley viaduct?
