circa 1960 taken from on Hindley iron bridge.
I can count seven sets of lines in this picture along with the two water towers up near the road bridge and a mass of sidings away to the right. The Alan Godfrey Kirkless and Hindley Hall 1907 shows nine sets of lines here - the two missing sets appear to have been short sidings up to the white fence on the left.
Ladies Lane pits is marked away to the far right along with fifteen sets of sidings. Busy then in 1907 and pretty busy in c1960 as well. Today it's not so busy and not so pretty.

Those sidings to the right were very busy in the 50's/6o's.
There were always wagons full of coal,used to have campfires burning for days. I remember "camping" in carriages that were left there .
