The start of the building of Crispin Arms, circa 1954. Birkett Street can just be seen over the wall. Apparently this section of the old Crispin Arms used to have stabling facilities. Our dog seems to get into most of these photos.

Nice one, Keith, been our watering home for many years, for the Bulldog lads.

Hi William, dad tells me that we had a number of Burgesses as customers from 1950 to 1956 when we left to take over the Wellfield Hotel. If you go to "Album contents" and click onto "Street Scenes" and on to "Birkett Bank" you should see a "Bill Burgess" in the photo, might be a relative? Incidentally dad, Jack Bowen is now 93 and Wigan RL's oldest living ex-player, he still lives in Wigan.
