Castle colliery drift mine at Billinge. It was only open for a short time but a runaway tub killed one man there

Hi there Dougie, yes I wrote a couple of books but never had them printed. I think that you read the transcript of the one about Stones's colliery, as I gave it to Gerry Hilton.

Good history photo's Fred thanks for your reply you have put my mind at rest, it's along time from 1959 to remember someone but the name and all the old photo's (YES it must be Fred Foster from Stones's,) will Walk that way next week with the carera unlike other pits the site has never been cleared

Yes, Jeff is my son and he served his apprenticeship at Parkside as an electrician.He finished up on the Wash before he left

hi i was working at castle that fateful day mel got killed by the runaways (three tubs went down the drift) it was good friday and there was only 6 of us working that day. i had made some cages for mels dogs. we had a race to work that day.i tried to save mel giving him cpr. it seemedlike only a few minutes i was trying. but the ambulance guys came down and stopped me saying he was dead.i had been trying for over half an hour. a day i still remember. cheers from roy in south africa
