What a great photo. Do you know where the photo was taken? It looks like the bottom of Maksinsons Arcade.
To be honest Brian, without consulting directories, I'm not sure where in Wigan it was, so you may be right. Does anybody else have any idea?
If I was putting any money on it I think I would opt for the
end of the Royal Arcade facing the Market Hotel.
Could the "RO" that can be seen to the right be the beginning of ROYAL ARCADE and the shop be the same one as the baby shop that is there now. I think it is called Baby Boutique.
Yep definitely Royal Arcade. If you look closely you can see the shop on the left window is at a slight angle as now
i would defo say it was the royal arcade the shop that is still a baby shop
I am certain that it's the shop at the bottom of the Royal arcade and it's still a baby wear shop.

From what i have been told recently the Baby Boutique has closed - shame i bought some lovely clothes there for my daughter!!
The shop was at the bottom of the Royal Arcade, the end that came out near the market. In the 1950's the name changed to The Crèche, my Mum bought a mustard fitted coat there for me when I was about 5. Recently the shop again sold children's and baby clothes. Across the arcade from that shop was a photographers I think it may have been called Foley's. That shop until the last few years sold pies, barmcakes etc.
