Kay's houses & Westwood Hall in the background during the construction of Westwood power station dated 09/12/1949. I have 222 images of the development showing many buildings that made way including one of the gatehouses to the estate. This is high quality commercial photography for the time.

Yes Andy an interesting photo, though I doubt those in Kay's houses thought so with their view from the front windows being blocked.

Westwood Hall's history is most interesting: it's 19th century owner, Charles Walmsley, was a member of the jury at the 'Peterloo massacre' trial in Manchester. His house was burgled by 4 men, including George Lyon, a notorious Upholland criminal, who made the mistake of selling the stolen silverware to an undercover law officer, posing as a pub landlord. All 4 were arrested, one of whom turned 'Kings Evidence', and the other 3 men were convicted and hanged at Lancaster gaol in 1815, a few weeks before the battle of Waterloo. No person was injured in the burglary.
