the picture was taken when the scrapyard was closing to make way for the new road near Tesco. The old rugby ground in the background.
This took me back this was the view from my backyard. As we lived in Turner street which backed on to Calderbanks scrap yard. Many happy days were spent hanging over the yard wall with the clothes line and a hook trying to 'fish' pram wheels out to make a trolley.
me and my mate roy spent sum good times playing in the scrap yard.and they old wood yard at the side of st georges school.old fred layland he was always in the scrap yard

Back in the 50's used to make my own wirelesses sometimes found the parts here and made them work !
