A Stringfellows Bedford removal van, in the later days
when the company became part of Pickfords.

Removed my furniture to Kent, from Wigan, in July, 1964. Did the business transaction, I believe, at their premises, in Library Street, Wigan.

I'm sure that at one time Stringfellow's removal vans had a painting of an arched bridge over a river along with the slogan 'Stringfellow's The Bridge Between Two Homes'.

Were they based around Martland Mill / Standish LG area?

Cyril, Have a look at the Stringfellows section on here, one of their older
lorries has the " Arched Bridge " image on the bodywork.

Broady, Yes, Stingfellows Wigan depot was at Martland Mill Lane.

Their main office was on the corner of Park Rd and Springfield Rd and a sub office in Atherton. The garage and maintenance was at Standish Lower Ground . The business was run by two brothers one of whom lived in the house next to the office.

Stringfellows also had an office at the top end of Library St. where they had a franchise from the early 60s for Hertz car rentals. I think they were the first in Wigan to offer car rental.
