1800 tv masts ??
Wasn't there a Sovereign Rd off Darlington St.? I'm not sure where the Mill was...
Thomas Darwell started Sovereign Mills in the 1800s.He was later reprimanded for making children work from 9 till 5.He later became Mayor in 1824..I think its Rivington Ron.
I wondered if anyone would say something...As Mark Twain said...Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt.<g>
I don,t think there would be a TV mast in 1800 Ron, I would plump for Billinge ill
It's nowhere really. It's just imaginary.
It's definitely Rivvy, as Haigh Hall is to the left.
I still don't know the whereabouts of the Mill. I shall have to go and ask google...
Edna, I think working 9 to 5 would have been luxury in those days. Thomas Darwell apparently had children working from 5am till 9pm !
Yes John, your absolutely correct, sorry!!
Looks like it could be the Sovereign Mill where Sovereign Road is now (off Warrington Road) - looking north with Pepper Mill on the left and other mills on the Douglas in the back ground.
I' m glad that's cleared up Bill Aldridge. Would the road on the right be Darlington St. I know Sovereign Rd was somewhere near the Gasworks.
Veronica, the mill was nearly facing Lily Smiths.it was where Lidls is now.
Billinge Hill. The white building is probably Westwood Hall
