The end of the pre-start visit walkabout. Now, within a week construction work starts.

So much nicer around there before the construction... Sorry Barrie it's a monstrosity, I saw it with my own eyes a couple of years ago, I couldn't believe what I saw.

So true Veronica it's all barren now to how it was - and it still floods at Newtown despite this dam.

No need to apologise Veronica, blame the Designers /EA / Council but not the contractors. I know a lot of discussions went into the scheme prior to Morrison starting on this phase. I guess that this was the only practical place to construct it given the restricted access and terrain. Phase 1 of FAS was accessible. from various locations. I can understand members of the public not liking the structure. This was the 1st time in 50 years I had walked round there. Wasn't there a TV comedy/drama in the 80's called "Blot on the Landscape". I watched it years later.
The reason I wanted to show the construction of Wigan FAS in the Album is there was no record for our next generation to ponder over it ( just like the M6 construction).A few P-A-D from 2010-2011, 2016. I can remember the floods in and around Wigan during the 50's/60's. My Dad used mention them from the 20's when he lived up Pemberton. Trust you will like the remaining montage of Phase 2 and hopefully, Brian will allow me to complete the set with ones I took a couple of years ago showing how nature has reclaimed the area but not quite like it was in 2009.
