she liked the "Rich,Deep Red" colours of buses
from years ago, This Albion bus is much cleaner
than the previous one. I like the expressions of
the 3 females waiting at the Kitt Green, Crawford, and Rainford bus stop...are they from
the same family ??...Daughter, Mother, and Nanna
with hair rollers and headscarf. (Not my Photo)
How very kind of you, Ray! They are lovely colours and I remember the old LUT buses were also a rich red. I loved our own Wigan Corporation's memorable maroon-and-cream with great affection, with the green lights on either side of the destination board. So where you travelled, (and it was never very far as most of us didn't have a car), you knew you were "home" when you saw a "Corpy" bus! Peter and I were travelling along the road near Clitheroe last year when we saw a Wigan Corporation bus....Magic! I have two model ones given to me by a dear friend, one of them bearing the destination "Ince Bar", which was MY stop in my childhood....my way home. I think those ladies are looking at the driver and saying, "Wozzee playin' at, yon mon? We're frozzen, stood 'ere!".
Those buses of yeateryear were so smart and stood out- unlike today's public transport. Perhaps the womenfolk are astounded because it's a new bus?
Where was this photo taken?
It looks like the Mesnes playing field to the rear of the bus but I can't remember the Co-operative building?
Ian - it's the very end of Hope St, at its junction with New Market St.
It is the Mesnes playing field that can be seen on the left hand edge of the photo behind the bus.
Thanks for these pictures Ray, it's great seeing these old pictures of the bus station and old buses, fond memories of the Crawford and Roby Mill bus now consigned to history. The UpHolland area had a much better bus service then than it does now.
