Initially based in Stopford street Ince, the company relocated to new premises in 1981..or 82... I'm not exactly sure, and I know from experience that you're a difficult crowd to please. The engine side of the operation went down to Douglas garage, close to The Saddle junction, whilst the fork lift side went up to a brand spanking new building on the Wheatlea industrial estate at Goose Green. I don't know much about what went on regarding the engine side, as I wasn't much involved in that aspect of the operation, but I was certainly involved in the fork lift side. The company hit the buffers sometime in the mid 80's due to bad management ( in my view anyway ). You've heard it all before, ' too many Chiefs ' etc. If Trevor had been a little bit less of a gentleman and a little bit more of a businessman, this company would probably have still been in existence and would more than likely have dominated the FLT hire business in this area. However, it wasn't to be.....sadly.....c'est la vie.

Eddie,Thanks, I remember Sutcliffes as Wigan engine specialists as were Douglas Garage( Their competitors) and this appears to have been a takeover ? Sadly the F.T business appears to have been mismanaged in expansion??
Trevor was described to me as a likable easy going chap.Too easy going and trusting some say,

my dad worked for trevorsutcliffe till 1981,retiring at the age of 71, he thought very highly of trevor and was very fond of him, he spent time at trevors house doing jobs around the the house and garden, as you say trevor was a real gentleman and people took advantage of his good nature, trevor gave my dad a watch when he retired, trevor had a great dane dog called blue, which used to follow my dad home when he came home for his dinner, he lived close to sutcliffes at the time, dad was so sorry when he heard trevor passed away.
