colin steam passenger operation did continue at places like Liverpool exchange till 1968 on Liverpool to Glasgow's,engines changing at preston.but tank haulage ?

I have just checked my records from springs branch.two stanier tanks made it through 1965.
42462 made it till the end of 1966 and 42577 till 31/1/1967.while other tanks went early 1965,up till april its doubtful if these were not already stored pending confirmation of withdrawal.my best guess 42462 or 42577 in action at wallgate. so my apologies its probable I am wrong with my earlier assertion.

In the background is the elevated ex LNWR main line to London. In spotting days, any loco was clearly visible from the 'nick'. Today, trees planted at the end of the steam era, block the view. The engine is probably from Liverpool Exchange and could be a stopper to Manchester Vic. 1965: great summer, and probably the last before steam 'executions' really gathered momentum.
