What year was this David?
Dave Higham: Chief Mechanic. Remember the good times at the Valve?
It was 1977 when the place closed down, they manufactured denim cloth which in turn was used for jeans and nurses uniforms. Prior to closure, they received an order for cloth which was too wide to be woven on their existing weaving looms, a request to the Labour government at the time, to use the wider looms available at the Courtaulds factory in Skelmersdale which had closed in 1976, was turned down.
Good photo David.

I started work at Clifton mills i 1972 when i was 15. Remember the woman on the pocket press getting her hand fried and Jean who was running with a truck and got a shard of wood straight through her foot. Used to love watching the greyhounds train on the dog track. There was a girl on the overlocker called Mary used to love Marc Bolan. anyone remember me?
