Interesting photograph. This looks like it is taken from the Goose Green side, but it could from the Winstanley side. Just to the top left of the picture, you can just see what could be the 'little' Yo Yo. It is late afternoon/early evening with the sun evenveloping lower Pemberton. Great picture.
If you look to the top left of the picture you can make out the building just after the railway bridge in Little Lane, which is now 'Systems House'. If you follow the line of Little Lane, you can make out the bridge that was at the rear of Appleton Autos. I think the photo was taken from the bottom of or beyond, Foundry Lane.
its not taken from the goose green end as from the bottom of duke street nothing was visible of the colliery in the sixties
What a fantastic playground it was for us young lads. Our very own ALTON TOWERS
Opps, I meant enveloping. Yes, it could be from the Highfield side.
Ron, a fantastic playground for all the kids.... not just lads!
Brilliant Cindy. I used to play on this site when I was a boy. May I ask where you got the picture from?
I live at the bottom of Foundry Lane now and you don't get this perspective view of the Little Lane bridge. It must have been taken farther down towards Goose Green. My missus worked at West End Oil between 1969 and 1972 which was almost next door to the Systems House building. So 1960's perhaps.
Hello John I got the photo off My Brother in Law Peter.
