If that quoted return fare from Wigan,to Blackpool (return)is 3s,& 6d. It seems to be quite a sum, for a reduced fare, in 1927.

In the late fifties, you could get a return rail ticket to Blackpool, from Wigan, on Saturday a evening for very little more, and that ticket would also get you into the Tower Ballroom.

Albert; Comparing prices from years ago, how about this:-
In May 1969 the total cost of 11 bottles of whisky and 3 bottles of sherry, in duty free, at Heathrow Airport was £15-19-6d. A bottle of whisky was 28/- and a bottle of sherry was 3s 10d. A cousin and I took them to Detroit.

Ernest. Can you recall any of that holiday?

Gary Winstanley; Yes, I certainly can. I took my Agfa cine camera and have had the film put on DVD.

Ernest. I surmise that Gary is relating to whether you can remember anything if you consumed all of that booze.

Albert; We didn`t drink any of that booze over there. We gave 10 of the bottles to relatives and we brought two bottles of whisky and two bottles of sherry back with us to share.

I for one, will certainly take your word as gospel, Ernest.
