This is a news cutting from 1931. It was found when an acquaintance of mine died recently. Owd Nats as it was known locally was Worsley Mesnes Colliery. It closed down in the 1926 strike and this is a pic of the chimney demo. The colliery shaft was in the vicinity of the tall flats that used to be in Worsley Mesnes. A teenager lost his life when he fell down the shaft and his body was never recovered. I apologise for the condtion of the pic, but it is from 80years ago!

That looks as though, even at that angle, the chimney is still intact.
A solid chimney that.
