Based at Ashton depot during the 1970 & 80s, the reg was I think - MDM 938 P, a flying machine if ever there was one. This one's for you Colin and Derek, ear muffs necessary !

Excellent photo Wally, that does bring back some great memories. NDM 938P, painted in the then new livery of Kwiksave beige and bass-charrington brown. Jimmy Ellis was the driver at that time. It had a Cummins 220 engine that I overalled, and re-timed the injectors, as you say a flying machine and could pull the house down. NO speed limiters then so you had to watch your speed...matched with a 10 speed range, fuller gearbox. They served Kwiksave well. Thanks Wally.

Hi Wally, good photo these Seddons never looked right in the
new colours I wish me + Colin were going out road testing it
I'd make go for him,I think Jimmy Ellis drove that Bedford
TM the one with the Detroit engine in after he droveNDM938P
that Detroit engine would shift them all It would pull like
a train thanks for the memories Wally D.C.

Hi Colin, do you remember when the apprentices were bragging
about how fast their cars would go and I said that Bedford
Detroit is faster off the mark than Troys car they said noit
is not so I said we'll have a race in KS yard tonight I told
you to start the Detroit off in 6th gear and you beat the
car off the mark those lads could not believe that the truck
was faster of the mark than the car good memories eh Colin
D.C.

I do remember it Derrick but I think it was after the TM had gone. Kwiksave acquired Liqueur Save and the fleet of vehicles from their Bootle depot, Jimmy Ellis drove a powerful MAN unit from there. I can't remember the Reg, but sure it was an MAN...as you say no contest.

Colin and Derek, there were actually two TMs they came from Cee'n'Cee cash'n'carry Winsford back in 1979, one was a 24 ton with Bedford engine and the other was a 32 ton Detroit diesel, didn't the Detroit become too troublesome ?, the smaller one was sold off to Iceland which was just starting out.

That's right Wally, the TM with the Detroit was troublesome and very expensive aswell...American V6 two stroke full of oil leaks always in the garage.
