Never knew Gail Platt from Corrie (fourth from right) was once a Post Office Telephones switchboard operator!

I so much enjoyed seeing this as I was a telephonist back in 61/62 at the main Cooperative Emporium in Doncaster.
I so loved that job and recently was able to get hold of `The Hello Girls` which was a TV series some years ago and I watch it over and over, it`s so real, and it takes me back to being 16 again in that wonderful era, the sixties
If anyone wants a copy of Hello Girls, a man
on Ebay is selling legitimate copies really cheap and very good quality sound and vision.
But the strange thing is that the girl nearest the camera looks just like me!!
Thank you for making my day.

Margaret Gorner and Pauline Parkinson where in my class at Highfield Junior School. Boy was I in love with Margaret. I think it was her long plats which fascinated me.

Christine, I have been on ebay and put in The Hello Girls and all I'm getting is Hello Kitty stuff and the BOOK of the Hello Girls.....no dvds. Can you help, please?

Comment by: RON HUNT on 30th September 2012 at 19:03

Thinking again I'm sure the girl who was in my class was Ann? Parkinson? but this girl looks like her. Can anyone confirm the girl, who went to Highfield in the 1950's, name was. She will now be about 66.

Ron, The names are on the back of the photograph and I think were written back then. However, I will check with the owner of the photograph.

I was an apprentice with Post Office telephones back then and used to dread doing maintenance work on the switchboard. I seemed to be blushing for the whole day - talk about sexual harassment !! It really set my development back for years to come and left a permanent scar......... only joking, they were real ladies - I would blush if they as much as looked my way.

Bet Elsie Kay didn't know you were distracting her girls !!

Comment by: mj on 30th September 2012 at 21:19

Should it be Corner and not Gorner ?

Comment by: mj on 30th September 2012 at 21:23

Think it was Ann Parkinson cousin to the Tudge sisters.

Comment by: RON HUNT on 30th September 2012 at 22:44

I remember Marion Tudge at Highfield. Margaret Corner's dad had a shop on the corner of little Billinge road and Ormskirk road.

Irene.
The man is: david@bottomley1.freeserve.co.uk
The one I have is both series(I think) for about £6.50 or something like that. I`ve bought so many I have forgotten how much.
If you send him your email he will send you a list but tell him what you want. He is just getting me Jack Rosethall which is a great DVD.
You pay him via Paypal. If you can`t get it let me know.
Kind regards
Christine.

Is this where Gordon Tyrer worked ?

Comment by: RON HUNT on 1st October 2012 at 22:46

Thanks Fletch, problem solved. looking at the photograph again it doesn't reallylook like the girl who was in my class. For a start she had blond hair. However she could have dyed it.

Hi, I am trying to locate a lady whose maiden name was Jackie Phillips back in the 60's. She was on the switchboard in Corby (UK Midlands). I have searched the internet but can't find her anyway. Are there any lists of GPO staff from those days in that location? Many thanks
