My Auntie, Sally Gittoes, nee Griffiths, appeared in some of the 1950s Pit-Brow Women pics. Although not pictured here, I an so proud when I see her photo in Wigan History books.

These lassies had a wonderful history. my gran was one - in my family pics. I love the story about the "ladies" from London who thought they were degenerate (some wore trousers!). The tried to have them banned, but the Wigan lassies went to London with the MP, and they were dressed in good clothes, and they won their case. sadly, the N.U.M. persuaded the Governemtn to disband them.

As Albert says Victoria Colliery was in Standish, between Boars Head and Standish station(Rectory Lane). It was situated up Lurdin Lane off Chorley Road and just to the west of the WCML railway with sidings connected to the main line.Owdbill.
