This building was the home of the Wigan Observer for 113 years, the very first edition of the newspaper appearing on January 1, 1853-the start of a new institution in the town. This photo is the early 60s, the last copy to be printed here was the 21, January 1966.

My Grandfather Thomas Bryson used to write articles on mining for the Wigan Observer.. he used to take me to a printers shop up The Wiend..I sat on a high stool while he spoke to the men behind the counter, I was about 7 yrs old at the time.
