The case for the strike, which received huge public sympathy, with local Joe Gormley as the NUM's leader. At the time I was working in Snowdown Colliery, Kent. Kent voted 73.5% in favour of the strike. Only Scotland, at 75%, was higher. The North-West was spilt - 56.5% in favour of the strike.
