Pewfall Colliery was situated north side of Liverpool Road, sunk by Samuel Clough. Bought by Richard Evans. Pewfall employed 220 men and had four shafts in 1894. Colliery closed in 1911. St Thomas' Churchyard Grave of James Frost 18th April 1857 Book-keeper. Killed by being struck on the head by a cage while looking down the pit.

I remember playing on the spoil heaps where the old pit was & that was in the 1940s, Ashton Council filled in the shafts with household rubbish, Spent many a happy hour over there.
