They could have took their overalls off!

Knowing Kirkless workshops, they probably had to nip out to the pub in their dinner break, which was only short.

Anyone know the name of the person at the very back with his hand on the wall holding a cigarette. His surname was Atherton I think? and he lived on Cale Lane in the sixties.

In the Commercial for what probably was a well-deserved pint. The Kirkless Hall Inn can be seen through the window.

The Commercial Inn is on the canal bridge just before the now Kirkless Industrial Estate.

The bloke at the back with his hand on the wall is John Atherton, I drink with him in the Gerard Arms at Aspull every Sunday afternoon :-)

Paul - is that you sat on the left of John Atherton with the tash ? I think I remember you, I used to work in the machine shop, Bill MacDonald was the foreman, I used to work with Clive Cottingham ( COTTY )Kenny Hindley, Billy Liptrot, Derek Bishop ( Bishy - sadly no longer with us ) Chris Eccleston,Jack Melling and a few more.
My dad was an Electrician and worked with a lot of these chaps in the photo, he was good friends with the bloke on the left - Harold Green.
