Takes you back to a time when Wigan was unique with buildings full of character and loads of different shops. Not like the plasticated, characterless shopping malls that are in place today with half or more of their units standing empty. Thanks Alan for posting this great photo.
Isn't that Market St? With the old Gas Show Rooms (O&G Rushtons) in the background on the right?
It is Market St Ian, can you remember there were shops on both sides of the road then all selling different goods and all of them very busy on most days, especially so on Fridays or Saturdays when Wigan town centre was absolutely packed out. Also can you remember the farmer's market that was held every Friday around the Market Hall even at the back on the car park. You could even buy live chickens and ducks, somehow I can't see that happening again.
Tis an all Ian
I remember now itwas Market st.I had just finished work at Rathbones, and went to the camera shop that was there, the guy who sold me a camera took the first photo and this was it .
That camera shop was Foley and Scott just off Mesnes Street
