A photo from late 1940's or early 1950s. It's a group photo and I hope someone can put names to them. The photo was amongst dozens I've found that my Gran had stored away. She lived in Wigan all her life and never went anywhere else, so I can assume that this is a Wigan based picture. (she is not in the photo though)

My grt Aunt Selina Ashurst was involved in the 50's and 60's - have got some photos of them setting up emergency kitchens etc

My Dad , Bill Denton, was Civil Defence Training Officer in the 60's He roped us in, Mum in emergency feeding, me and my now husband David Morris in First Aid. Volunteers got a bounty of £10 per year.

Hi Kathleen, I worked with your dad at the C.D.My Name is Ken Roocroft, my wife Betty,Mary Somers and her husband Stan Somers, we were with the C.D. for a few years enjoyed the mock accident scenes and the emergency cooking in a 45 gallon drum, had some good grub, even apple crumble at one time.
