WAW! I never knew I had a dickybow,
who,s best dressed Eh!
young Cliff.
Tony Bennett is my cousin. I'll tell him about the picture
Knew him well Ron
The one down as Anne Hinds is actually Anne Birch.
Next to Lois is Barbara Gaskell Cliff you were a right little poser then.
still am Kath alas but I cant find my dickybow oh and get urself down to the Royal Oak on thurs WW meet up I,ll buy you a drink.
Thats only a little dicky Cliff. I think you'll find they are a lot bigger these days.
Kath, are you sure thats Barbara Gaskell next to Lois. It looks like one of the Jones family to me.
Ron not sure now you could be right but I still can see Barbara,I remember the name a Jones was she a Kathleen.Sheila are you the one on the picky.Has anyone else got any piks of the Rose Queens that used to take place every year in the school yard.I am sure there are some around somewhere. All have a good rummage we will all love to see them.
Kath, I think you are spot on. Kathleen Jones. Didn't she have a couple of brothers at St Georges a tad older. I think they came from the Boyswell Lane area.
Hi Ron I think Kathleen Jones did have 2 brothers 1 older and 1 younger not too sure about age though but I cant remember their names.Do you by any chance have an old street map of Scholes and the surrounding area just to get my bearings.
Kath, Geography was never one of your strong subjects at school I remember one Geography report it said "Does well to find her way home"
now then Shiela, behave I eventually grew and got myself a big dickybow , its a belter I have it everywhere I go, I cant be without it its the best thing my mom ever brought me, now behave !!
Is the lad between Walter Whitaker and Tony Bennet, Edward Hutchinson?
Ron, there is a Kenny Jones on the 1954 st georges pic
far right top row
Kath. I have no old maps of Wigan. I only have vague memories but I think Boyswell Lane ran from Greenough St, parallel to Scholes down to the Waterside near the Little Theatre. Streets like Upper Morris St, I think ran from Scholes down to Boyswell Lane.
Cliff. Kenny was a little skinny lad and I think that he had a sister Sylvia Jones. Kathleen Jones and her brothers were much bigger kids - if my memory serves me well. I could be wrong though...?
The lad 3rd from left top row, named Arnold Swain. Was his name not Lesley something.
Ron I dont think its arnold Swain I cant remember him in this class.
Cliff was there someone called Bayliss in our class its just a name at the back of my mind. And before you say anything I did use both brain cells to bring it to the front I am worn out now.
yeah Kath, Bayliss rings a bell. Robert Bayliss I think it was I cant remember him in our class, I have met him since schooldays in the late 70,s, I was doin some work for Allen Bros in Cale Lane he was bit of a boss I think, nice lad and waw! where did you dig that name up from Kath Id,e forgotton him I think he lived in Mount Street, I can picture him now. your memory is not as bad as you say.
Who is the little girl next to Sheila laughing her head off?
thats bubbly Catherine Stevens Ron she was always laughin
bet she still is Oh and she is still giggling on the other class pic
I dont mean Catherine cliff I mean the little girl next to Sheila.
sry Ron, not a clue you got me wonderin now.
I cant even give a guess. hope someone will tell us.
Could it be Janet Green, Cliff.
I thought Janet Green went to St Marys but could be wrong.
could be Ron but I honestly dont know.
I think your right there kath I cant remember her at St Georges
No..no..no. Rons right. Janet Green went to St Georges. Same class as C. Higham & K. Bridge. Passed 11 + . Went on to High School. Defintely. Don't beleive me? Ask her.
yes yes sorry guys your right if she did go to our school that is probally her, I knew her well as a teenager and lookin at that face again your right, thats our Janet
I just couldnt recall Janet at St georges, SORRY JANET, I still luv ya.
What hapened to John Ashcroft. Is he the dad of that singer Richard Ashcroft.
Richard Ashcroft, a Wigan lad, is the lead singer for Verve, Where av you been for the last ten yars Cliff.
oh ok,Verve eh? been there done that, its not nice I had a trapped Verve in the neck and boy was it painful when I got out of hosi my son took me to a big Gig at Haigh
Hall it was ok but that verve wasnt completey gone but it was an enjoyable experience,I was impressed with that band 'The Nerve' I think they was called , anyroadup I dont know any Rich Ashcroft.
I'll forgive you for all that rambling Cliff. Its your age. The memory fades. Anyway the point is, you knew John Ashcroft. Try to remember - in your own time luv. Is Richard, of the Verve his son, no rambling allowed.
if my memory serves me well Mr Verve lived in Earl st off Wigan Lane with his Ma an Pah and no I dont think John Ascroft had a verve.
Cliff get back to your nursing home before they miss you.
NO!
its in Lathom, no buses. behave
The lad named as "unknown" next to Tony Bennett could be Edward Hutchinson who lived in Marsh Lane near St Gerges Church. Keith West also lived there.
Yes Cliff - think you are right. By the way - luv yur dicky.
all the ladies tell me the same, dunno why? a dicky is just a dicky, I have one bigger than that now,I just use it on special occasions.
Cliff I think that dicky makes you very distinguished. You are the best looking lad on the photo.
I thought Alan Addlington was best looking Evy.
Yes Al was definitely the cutest lad in thge class.
