hi Bill,
I wonder if you have finished reading those comics I lent you? You remember, there was a "superman" a "batman & robin" and 2 editions of the "eagle". Whilst there is no rush, you have had them for over 50 years, although I remember that you were a slow reader. Maybe you can drop them off whenever you are passing.
Great to hear from you.
Bill

hello billy oakes. yes i am very well.have lived in parbold for past 35 years. i am granny to 6 and mum to two. seeing these photos has sent (over the past few weeks) a rush of memories from my childhood in the fifties. i loved my time at St Marks. a wonderful school. here is a memory that has stayed with me always. ... one snowy afternoon, Mr Birch, the head, took us into the playground with a microscope. we held out our hand (as instructed)and viewed the pattern of a snowflake up close. beautiful, yes, but he told us that each snowflake had its own unique, pattern. i was filled with awe and never forgot that moment he was a truly "memorable man and teacher".

hello again Bill Oakes. Meant to ask when I last left a comment but it slipped my mind, ... did you go to Wigan Grammar when you left St.Marks? And is that you on a 1961/2 "first X1" football team picture on Wigan Grammar school Site? did you know an Ian Pierce who is on the picture? We used to be friendly with him in the late sixties/early sevevnties then lost touch. someone on one of the sites said that he had died a good number of years ago? did you hear that? or perhaps you lost touch after school. (indeed, it might not even be you on the picture anyway) can you throw any light? Cheers.

Hello Dorothy,
No I did not go to the Grammar school or St. Marks for that matter I went to All Saints. Do you ever hear from the Forshaw sisters you used to mate with I believe one lives on Skye

Comment by: dorothy sharpe (aswas) on 28th October 2013 at 23:16

hello billy, Linda Forshaw (the oldest of the sisters) was the one who lived on Skye. Her sister Kath was a very close friend of mine for many years. we shared all the best of our "growing up years" together and had some amazing times and adventures. we still exchange birthday/Christmas cards but I haven't seen her for many years. she lives in Beech Hill I believe. (well, that's where I still send the cards.) (p.s. always thought that you went to St.Marks. The memory can be so unreliable) all the best Billy.

I would like to clarify that it is my Mum, Sylvia Halliwell, 4th row, 5th from the left. It's lovely to see a photo of my Mum during her school days. Sadly she passed away in February 1997 after a long and brave fight with cancer.
