Its a sad thought but most of these young boys would of been 23 years old in 1914 when the first world war started quite a lot of them would have not survived it.

A lost generation - which in turn left a great many young women to live their lives as 'old Maids'. There was a always one or two in every street that I can remember. Very sad.

A lot of widows never married again either. I suppose it meant losing their widow's pension. My Grt Aunt was in that position..with one child.
