I have no idea why that's happened.
Your just making sure Maureen. Your not related to Mick Mcgovern are you?
Yes Roy,he was my brother, how do you know him.
What do you mean Maureen, was your brother? I was at Thomas Linacre with him, played in the school rugby team.
Hello Roy,we lost our Mike in 2006,he had a brain tumour, such a waste,he was a cracking lad I could talk forever about him.
Very sorry to hear that Maureen, as you say a nice lad. Go to Wigan World, Album, Schools,Thomas Linacre, page 3, bottom row on page 3 photo of Form 2a 1954.I,m back row 4th from left, dont need to tell you which is your Mike,we always called him Mick at school.
Thanks very much for that Roy,do you know I'd supposedly looked at all those, thanks again.
No problem Maureen it depends how recently you looked,I uploaded it about 6/7 months ago.Last time I spoke to Mike was in Gorners cafe many years ago,did he work for the Electricity Board?
Hello Roy,from school he went straight to Taylors mill as an apprentice electrician. It was there he had that awful accident,he was electrocuted and severely burned, the incident turned the power off all over Wigan. For many years he worked for Hawker Siddley until his retirement,I miss him an awful lot.
Hi Maureen,it was after Mike's accident when I last saw him,I didn't want to mention it,I remember it in the papers.I knew he was an electrician i'd got it in my mind that it was the'Board'he worked for.How old was he when that happened,it will give me an idea of when I last saw him? Was this your class photo,if so,were you having a day off.The only one I know is Peter Bayman because of rugby.
Hello Roy,this is not my class, mine is the photo next to this in the St Josephs list, and I've put all the names on so theres no mistaking me.Our Mike was nineteen Roy when that happened,he's also had so many scrapes in his life you would not believe it,but he was always a dare devil,I don't know what he was like at school, and he always saw the funny side of everything,as I said before I could talk about him all day.
Sorry Roy,I forgot to say I only put this photo on because someone was enquiring about Stan Tighe from Wallgate
Hi Maureen, got ya,the nativity one is clearer especially magnified up to 150%.I remember Mike as a bit of a rum lad, always a smile on his face, not a bad rugby player either as I said we were in the same team.Just as a curiosity thing if you want to see who you have been talking to, go to'works','Heinz Kitt Green' i'm on the 1st photo on 1st page, mind you it's 20 years ago, dont let your other half catch you, only joking!I was a Mech Eng as opposed to Mike's Electrical.Nice talking to you.
Hello again Roy,I've had a look, pleased to meet you,and it's been very nice talking to you too.
i have only just seen this photo my sister told me about it i tnink eric gordon had it publish in the paper i will tell a few of the girls iam in touch with to at it
Thanx Maureen for bringing back so many lovely memories. I am second on left back row and my name was Christine (not Margaret) Hunter. I am still in touch with Marie Yates and Winnie Cunningham and reading all the names again conjures up many thoughts of where they all are now. Would love to hear from any one of them and find out where they all are.
You're very welcome Christine.
OMG !!!! I look like a gremlin on this photo but thanks anyway Maureen for putting it in , I remember most of the people on it and am still in touch with some of them , Just for the record I havent grown much since then ...still look like a little gremlin , perhaps a 'fatter' one lol xx
Your'e very welcome as well Marie.
My mum's in this picture, Jean Mahoney, now Jean Gallagher. I ordered the picture from the Wigan Evening Post, she had it framed, it's the only picture I've ever seen of her as a child. I'm her double, so I knew it was her straight away.
Lisa i am next to your Mum in the picture and I remember her very well. If i remember rightly she was really good at drawing and used to draw pictures of ballerinas and lovely shapely ladies. I was always a little envious of her talent as i couldn't draw for peanuts. She may remember me maybe not, but say hello anyway.
I should be on this photo - but must have been off sick at the time. Most of the kids on this photo were my closest friends at school. NEW TO WIGANWORLD ... Johnboy
Hiya Johnboy,
What's your surname and where did you live? I've been trying to think who's missing off the photo but no luck. Anyway glad you've found Wiganworld, it a great site, keeps me happy for hours.
John Mc Mahon is my full name. I (as a child) lived at 78, Gt George St (this was a grocers shop) and then we (as a family) moved next door into the Nags Head Pub. This is where I learned to play guitar and sing. The more serious stuff came much later i.e. songwriting and recording etc. I remember where you lived i.e. top end of Gt George St (on the left-heading towards wallgate. We (schoolboys) had a reunion on 17th February 2011 and it was a fairly decent night. Please keep in touch - I will communicate as often as possible. Thank You for your time. johnboy.
Hi Johnboy
I don't know who you were thinking of but it wasn't me. I have never lived in St George St....in fact I lived most of my life in Scot Lane before moving to Southampton in 1965.
I do remember your name but can't put a face to it. Anyway keep in touch via the site, it's great to reminisce.
Sorry Christine, I must have hit a wrong button or something, my comments were intended for Maureen Andrews (nee Mcgovern). It was Maureen who lived in
Gt George Street. However, it was still nice to hear from you. Johnboy
Hello John..sorry been so long in replying, yes I remember your family..and yes I lived at the top of Gt George street no 23...how are you keeping? did you know Johnboy that if you go on communicate at the top of this page...then click on people which is to your left...there a brilliant thread there on Wallgate families..you'll enjoy it...please keep in contact Johnboy,it will be nice to hear from you.
Hi Maureen, sorry for the late reply but Iv'e been busy with other stuff for the past month or so. I will try the communicate/people buttons as you have suggested and I will also keep in touch. Thanks. johnboy
Thanks Christine, I will do, her granddaughter Megan takes after her for the drawing, and she paints as well x
Hi Johnboy, I think you are a cousin of mine , I lived in Wallgate , but I had an uncle and cousins in Great George St , and used to spend time there,I remember you being in my class , so I think you are right about just being off on the day of the photo , lol, tough luck ...or maybe not . !!
Hi Marie, what was your Aunt and uncles surname..I lived at no 23 G.G.S.
