Frank Balmer had a touch of the Robert Mitcham "tough guy" style I thought but underneath was a heart of gold. He had played professional Rugby League for St Helens and only after I left school did I realise he'd played against my father who had played for Wigan RL. I think I'm right in saying that Sales became (schoolboy?) Chess champion of Great Britain I believe.

Philip He tells me he was the wizard of the dribble out on the wing no wonder he still has the shirt! He has,nt altered one bit.
