I recognise a good few faces but only remember 2or 3 names.
Jimmy Hitchen on the left and John Halliwell my friend Pat's brother in the middle. The Queen is the girl on PAD today.

Lovely photo, brings back memories of May Queens.

Nice photo Tom. Thanks.
And further thanks to yourself and Veronica for the lead to PaD - tripping along from one version to the other by just a 'click', gives further enjoyment. Christine will be pleased to see her dress exhibited at The Wigan Museum of Wigan Life.

A vague memory of an old rhyme I once read comes to mind: "Wake me early, Mother, dear, For I'm to be Queen of the May". I don't remember where I heard that but it has obviously stayed in my subconscious and has come to the surface on seeing this lovely photo.

Irene, The poem that you half remember is "The May Queen" by Alfred Lord Tennyson.

Thankyou, Weatherwax.

was this photograph taken in St Patrick's school yard? Looks like the entrance to the cloak rooms behind the crowning group.

You're right Tuddy the old schoolyard with the cloakrooms attached....
