Is this Manchester Road canal bridge, the church behind looks familiar?
Yes you are right,it is Rose Bridge Methodist Church. This church had a lot of steps up to the door and was demolished many years ago.A new church has now been built on the same site with the main door now in Rose Street.
I think the church is Rose Bridge Methodists, Manchester Road, Higher Ince, by the canal. The ladies are walking in the direction of Wigan;the photographer facing the other way,(towards Ince Bar).
As ever the pagan will someone tell me the name of the Walker's Pub? Is it the Rose Bridge? or ???
It was the Rose Bridge Inn, Ian. A relative of my friend's ran it in the early 1900s.
3rd from right is mary mayers, who lived in greenfield ave ,was in my class at school, and one of my friends.behind her is evelyn hulse, lived in anderton st,last council house before labour club
I think the second lady could be my great aunt Maggie, her maiden name was Hogan and she married Gerald Heyes in 1938, they lived in Holt St, Higher Ince.
