As usual, put it out of the way so that no one can see it. Typical of our council, bury the past.

Did they find any coal when they dug the hole

I look forward to seeing that

Looks like it's going to be some monument if the foundations are so deep. At least something is being done to commemorate the industrial past and those who brought it about... I look forward to seeing it as well.

I wish it was more central and in a gated off area but well done to WHAMM for raising the money for a monument to our miners. They deserve to be remembered.

It seems a very appropriate location to me - outside the former Mining College.

Fred I wouldnt say its been put it out of the way, when its outside of the town hall.
When anybody who is somebody comes to visit the mayor they will see it

I agree with you Fred, a more appropriate location to pay respect to Wigan miners and their families and the hard work done by WHAMM would have been on the Wiend Square, it could have replaced that awful face sculpture.

Mick, anybody who is somebody and wanting to come and visit the mayor wouldn't be walking down a side street to get into the town hall.

Well done Tom.
You guys should be very proud in what you’ve achieved.
Perfect location.

I've been photographing the work as it progresses - and I Spy the time capsule ;)

David , that's fantastic, I was going to go down tomorrow to take some more photographs. Thank you . Beat regards Tom.

Wigan Council deserve praise for their support of the project from the first. A position outside a building that was one of the earliest mining colleges and adjacent to Millgate, with its historic mining site, seems highly appropriate.
