Pauine. Gosh another fan of this rhyme. Donovan set it to music but my own favourite version (it's on You Tube) is the one by Lucy Simon and her younger sister Carly Simon ( yes though one who sang You're So vain). Lucy wrote the music when she was 14 and the sisters had a hit with it in the early 1960s. It's a great song and once you have heard it you can't get it out of your head !

Sounds like some people can see real people through computer screens - but still get it wrong!
Based on his story, I believe that sailor is lost. Put-putting along the cut is interesting, though.
