If a tree falls in the Cut and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

A silent splash Mick?

The tree would produce vibrating air waves but without ears to convert them into sound there would be no noise perception of it.
Or perhaps things exist independent of our senses.

Dad's Army on patrol.....!

It was down by the Cut that I hoped to keep growing
When one summer's day the wind came a-blowing
My hopes for the future now seemed a bit rash
I was quickly uprooted and came down with a splash
Now my leaves are all soggy and my branches are dripping
I'm flat on my back and a hazard to shipping
Things don't look good, my prospects are dwindling
But at least I'll get dry when I'm turned into kindling.

I get your drift Veronica: "Don't Forget the Diver", in which Pte. Frazer was sent sallying down a river, disguised as a log.
