I remember doing a few Antique Fairs in the old Drill Hall in the late 70's and early 80's.

It used to be said "walls have ears" but if only the stonework could speak! Used to pass the Drill Hall many, many times and never bothered to find out its history for Wiganers.

Mick ,another interesting picture ,you keep finding little gems ! I remember in the 70s during The Fire Brigade strike The Drlll Hall was used to house The Green Goddess manned by the army.

Agree to that Tom -you can only twiddle your thumbs so much! I also remember my dad telling me when he first joined up during the last war him and his mates were set to clear the deep snow around Wigan. They were glad to do it as they were very well fed!

That takes me back. I was an officer in the Territorial Army stationed there in the early 1960's.

I am delighted that Wigan World is back, it is my only connection with Wigan now.

I remember the old drill hall in Powell Street Wigan from the days when the Fire Service were on strike 1977/78 and 3 Green Goddesses were based there. I was one of the police traffic officers who escorted them tp wherever they were going.
