A fine photograph and highly appropriate - today is the 300th anniversary of the birth of James Brindley, designer of the Bridgewater Canal and the Barton aquaduct.

I think you meant 400th Gary. It opened in 1761.

Gary is correct. James Brindley was born on July 31st 1761 in Derbyshire, 300years ago today.

Yes, should have said 1716,got confused with opening date of 1761. Coincidence of dates 1716 and 1761

The canal opened in 1761, and Brindley was born in 1716. So 300 years since the engineer was born.
