This site proves what a diverse variety of birds abound the green open spaces of Wigan.

I am always amazed by these close-ups at how alert and intelligent these lovely little birds look. People tend to think of wildlife as "just a bird", "just an ant" etc. etc., but when you see the ingenuity that goes into nest-making you realise just how clever they are, and I don't think there is a more beautiful sound than birdsong in a wood or a quiet country lane.
