This is a funny area Mick. Lovely and nice, but is it Wigan.I think Wigan starts after Parbold hill. This is West Lancashire.

Nice tranquil scene

Alex you could say the thick frost is also not from Wigan, but I was stood in the Wigan area when took the photo and I was wearing M&S underpants and socks that where bought in Standishgate Wigan.

Alex; Parbold is in West Lancs. but if you put `parbold` in search box above you`ll see what`s in wiganworld.
Mick; Do you remember Delph Tea Gardens in Parbold? Our gang cycled to Southport and had a row on the lake in there on the way.
When taken?

Does it really matter if it's West Lancashire? I can see that it would matter if pictures of Yorkshire or Cheshire were shown as photo-a-day on Wigan World, but Parbold IS Wigan to most of us on here, whatever it says on the map.

Nice photo Mick, likely to have been taken on Boxing Day as a guess.

TOP OF THE HILL IS ASHURST BECON.

Comment by: Colin Harlow on 6th January 2015 at 15:58

At 12:58 should have said Parbold.

Comment by: Alex on 6th January 2015 at 16:03

The telephone code for parbold is 01257, Lancashire, not 01942 wigan.

Comment by: Mick on 6th January 2015 at 18:16

Ernest it would have been taken on a Tuesday.

I cant remember going to the Delph Tea Gardens when it was open but I remember going in there after it was closed down.

I don't think that phone codes are important in deciding if Parbold, Ashurst Beacon or other places are in Wigan. I reckon the deciding factor is in history. I reckon all the above places are in Wigan also UpHolland and Appley Bridge.

Comment by: Alan H on 6th January 2015 at 21:46

Alex, the telephone code for Standish I also 01257 and that is definitly Wigan.

You can see it from Wigan so the photo certainly belongs here. Is the old quarry with the blue lake still there?

Comment by: Garry on 8th January 2015 at 17:12

You can see Fiddlers Ferry from Wigan, but it's not Wigan. Thats a silly statment Robin.
