Not very busy is it,what time of day, what day was it taken.

Comment by: Ernest Pyke on 14th October 2013 at 05:44

You go uphill after you enter the entrance from Standishgate. This view is looking downhill and is what you see before leaving the Galleries.
Wilkinson (which was Debenhams and Pendleburys previous), also Marks and Spencer, are just across the road (Standishgate) from this entrance/exit.
When was this taken Kathleen?

Comment by: Mick on 14th October 2013 at 07:31

Ive rode my bike up there.

Mick; You didn`t ride your bike up
there as you turned on the flat part, with this hill on your left, then went back towards the market. In other words you didn`t go up to the floor which this hill leads to.

Sign of the times. Photo could have been taken at any time of the day because its like that most of the time.

Comment by: Mick on 14th October 2013 at 09:06

Your right Ermest.

Comment by: Roy on 14th October 2013 at 09:23

Never will Liz? Are you not coming back to have one last look at God's country before you meet him personally? Pepper Lane, Graham Farm, St Marie's and a few more of the places of your youth. Find your way to Manchester and i will bring you the rest of the way for 'free', how's that for an offer from a fellow Standisher?,lol.

Comment by: Laurence on 14th October 2013 at 10:38

How can coming back to the UK be visitin' gods country? when there is no god.
Man-made religion is just brainwashing. Be yourselves and follow your own path.

Comment by: Ernest Pyke on 14th October 2013 at 11:00

Roy; Liz watches Mick`s video`s, so she sees a lot of Wigan and other places. Watching a video is next best to being there.

I think that most of the empty shops in the arcade were purchased by out of town companies who have put the rents so high that nobody can make a profit, hence the high percentage of vacant shops. Can anyone verify this?

Comment by: Roy on 14th October 2013 at 12:14

God's country is just an expression Laurence, although bear THIS in mind, remember what you've just said when you're in a desperate situation and you find yourself saying a prayer. Correct Ernest it is.

Comment by: Laurence on 14th October 2013 at 16:25

I've always been in a desperate situation. Roy. Its called 'life'
Never been easy for me and I certainly won't waste my time praying! Man-made religion is one of the greatest causes of conflict in the world. We are individuals and should create or own destiny.

Comment by: Ken R on 14th October 2013 at 16:25

Mick, was that a deliberate misspelling of Ernest??

Comment by: kath on 14th October 2013 at 17:15

It was taken early morning just as the shops were opening.

Comment by: Marcus on 14th October 2013 at 17:52

My word Luarence, how bitter, I really do think we have far greater problems to solve than that today. You obviously would have benefitted from meeting my old and late lamented friend the Rev. Charles Walker, Vicar of St. Michael and All Angels, Wigan and probably the finest human being I shall ever be priviledged to meet.

Comment by: hindleyite on 14th October 2013 at 18:50

I'm sure the rev. Walker was a fine chap, but that has no bearing on Laurences' non belief in God(s)'
I'm sure he has put much thought into the subject and arrived at the conclusion on the evidence as he sees it as oppossed to being indocrinated by his peers.

Comment by: Jonno on 14th October 2013 at 23:51

This is a good discussion for a change.

Comment by: Lizzie down under on 15th October 2013 at 03:57

Roy that is a grand offer....I don't think I will ever get back....to my home land....stop it you are bringing a tear to my old eye....seriously though it would be out of the question for now....but you never know.....and yes Mick drives me all around the place...for which I am very grateful....cheers!!!
